When I first accepted an offer to work in Lewisham, I wasn't at all sure about it. But having been here close to 6 months now, I can say at least this for it - there are quite a few interesting lunch options not very far away! My colleague persuaded me to join her at The Brockley Mess one afternoon, and every week we managed to rope in more people from the team, and very soon this became quite a favourite.

So what's it about The Brockley Mess that's so attractive? First off it's about a 15 minute walk from work, through residential roads with some lovely houses. Opportunity to admire and be inspired while working up a bit of an appetite. Next, it's not just a Café, but an art gallery too, so while you wait for your meal to arrive, you can have a little wander. Third, it's got a lovely, relaxed, sunny vibe. Could be the bright booths, the painted ceramic tile feature on one bit of the wall, the patterned sections on another, the blown-up monochrome photographs on another, the colourful paper lanterns bobbing in the breeze? Or maybe it's the smiling staff? The homemade cakes on the far wall? And then the food. Always been a treat. Typical café food - sandwiches, salads, all-day breakfast options, wraps. My personal favourites are the falafel and halloumi wrap, and the tabbouleh salad platter. Sumptious, healthy, and delicious. My colleague really enjoys the eggs royale. The cake to share at the end makes the meal a tad less healthy, but a tad more delightful. A giant slice of lemon drizzle one time, almond and chocolate another, carrot a third, banoffee a fourth. Really very good.

And they've just started skewer evenings! If I didn't live so far away, I'd definitely be in line to get in for one of those :)
